David J. Skal is the author of numerous books on film and popular culture, including “Hollywood Gothic, ” “The Monster Show, ” “Screams of Reason, ” “V is for Vampire, ” “Dark Carnival: The Secret World of Tod Browning” (with Elias Savada) and “Claude Rains: An Actor’s Voice” (with Jessica Rains. With Nina Auerbach, he is the co-editor of the Norton Critical Edition of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.” He has taught courses based on his books at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Victoria. As a filmmaker, he has produced, written, and directed a dozen documentaries for Universal Studios’ classic horror and science fiction DVDs, as well as a behind-the-scenes chronicle of the Academy Award-winning film “Gods and Monsters.” He lives and writes in Southern California.
